Dear Students and Parents,
It’s a long one but I don’t want to send a slew of emails so I think all questions are answered below. This email is for my students in all Saturday classes, my Tuesday Teen Choreographers AND to my graduating seniors. I tried my best to be thorough but it certainly isn’t short. On Saturday, April 27 there is no class. On Saturday, May 4 Nicole Pierce is subbing which will make you each feel a little bit like a doe trying to stand on her legs for the first time. You’ll realize how much you forgot or need to learn (lots of absences recently). Here’s a link to our last rehearsal. Please review prior to class. I will see you on Saturday, May 11 with your costumes in tow!
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE EMAIL. Take a deep breath, sit back and take in the details!
Best,
Erin
Performance Details
The 4th Annual e.g.dance Student Performance is on Sunday, June 2. Dancers are expected to arrive at the theater by 10:00am. The seniors and alumni will be rehearsing their piece at 9:30am. The performance is at 1:00pm and will be over by 3:00pm. All students should be at the theater from 10:00am-3:00pm. Are you wondering about Stage Fright? See below for opportunity to be on stage before that day and get used to surroundings.
Limited Tickets: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4225151
Tickets are $30 which includes free professional video and photography. Mark O’Donnell Theater at the Actors Fund Arts Center: 160 Schermerhorn Street (about 2 blocks from studio).
Costumes
Dancers are responsible for their own costumes. I rarely ask anyone to purchase something for a show. These items are usually expected in the repertoire of a pre-professional dancer and will be used year after year. There is also opportunity to borrow from alumni and older students.
BALLET (9:45-11:15 class)
Black Variations Skirt (this is an example: https://tinyurl.com/y2xqym9l )
Black Leotard of dancer’s choice (camisole, tank or short sleeve is best)
Pink tights (seamed are best but not necessary- example: https://tinyurl.com/y4me7fqp )
POINTE (11:15-11:45 class)
For pointe students, we will have a quick change. Backstage we will change from black skirts into white tutus. I would like to place order ASAP. Please respond to email with size (even if you have already) so we will have them by Saturday, May 4. I will place the order and get them shipped together. You are responsible for the cost of the tutu and I hope you end up wearing it often as you continue to train. WHITE TUTU: https://tinyurl.com/yyk2tmmh
CONTEMPORARY/MODERN (11:45-1:15 class)
We’re playing around with the idea of dresses. Solid color OR bold pattern (if everyone has a pattern, they could clash nicely). Please come to class on Saturday, May 11 with 2-3 options: even if a dress doesn’t fit you any more, it may fit someone else. We are costuming each other! Look in your closets, try not to spend money but sometimes you’ll find great things at Salvation Army, Goodwill, Buffalo Exchange. Things to keep in mind: fabric (something that moves nicely and reflects light is best), cut (a dress might be flattering on you but if you can’t lift your leg, that will be problematic…make sure you can grande plie in second), color or pattern (small patterns won’t read on stage so solid color is safest but big, simple, bold patterns are good too).
We have two rehearsals on stage so you can get used to doing your piece in a space that is about three times as big as the studio:
Wednesday May 22 5:00-7:00pm
Wednesday May 29 3:00-5:00pm
ALL e.g.dance students are welcome to be at the theater on these dates to get used to the space and rehearse. Pieces choreographed by Teen Choreographers are priority but we will make time to rehearse pieces for each person who attends.

Summer, Fall, ETC
I will be around in July and if students are interested, I can carve out some open classes in the evenings or mornings. Please reach out to let me know. I don’t mind texts from students since I think they are most responsive this way: 347.693.2256
I do need to hear from parents and students regarding the fall schedule. I would like to offer Ballet, Pointe Variations (no students who are new to pointe) and Contemporary. However, I think this makes Saturday too long. Ballet and Contemporary are each 1.5 hours (sometimes I prefer longer) and Pointe Variations would be an hour long (we would learn variations from the classical ballets: Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, Don Quixote, Les Sylphides, etc). So, tell me your dream schedule and I’ll see what kind of magic I can work.
