In 2005, Vanessa and Erin first joined artistic forces. They reunite at AOS to present work that reflects on their seasoned paths. Once-young students are now performers; old repertory feels prescient; new works sink into historical relevance. These dance artists present individual work during the season of their milestone birthdays. “Book of hOurs” is a nod to the passage of time, a meditation on perennial artists, and a celebration of timing and age.
“Light As a Feather…….Stiff As A Board” premiered in 2000 at Williamsburg Arts NeXus as a Gen X artists’ (plural) comic and incisive take on art, choreography, gender and more. Originally an evening-length work, we are presenting the finale only, a take on the iconic Kingdom Of The Shades processional from La Bayadere. Set to music by Minkus and the Velvet Underground, the piece examines the tension between anonymity, creativity and the need to be bold. It is also hilarious, seriously.
A group of dancers, The Fuselighters, reunites after 20 years. A list of injuries and broken promises from 2006 resurfaces. Milestones creep onto the stage and reflect the eight daily rhythms of reflection in “To Meet or Be Met.” And a lone dancer absorbs a litany of friends’ injuries in “My Injury.” Reunions and discoveries. And some stories to accompany them.
